CEDAR RAPIDS — Local police and fire workers unions are joining forces to host a Cedar Rapids mayoral candidate forum on public safety topics.

The event, hosted by the Cedar Rapids Police Bargaining Union and the Cedar Rapids Association of Firefighters, is scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple, 616 A Ave. NE.

“As public safety professionals we seek to highlight the candidate’s views on public safety topics,” a news release states.

The forum will be held in a modified town hall format with audience members allowed to ask the candidates questions on the topic of public safety. Candidates that have filed paperwork for mayor are Scott Olson, Gary Hinzman, Monica Vernon, Brad Hart and Tim Pridegon. Kris Gulick has announced the The Gazette his intention to run.

Election Day is Nov. 7.
