Cedar Rapids school board candidate forum is Thursday

Six candidates expected to attend

CEDAR RAPIDS — Several area organizations are hosting a public forum with six candidates seeking a seat on the Cedar Rapids school board.

The event takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 405 Union Hall, 1211 Wiley Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids.

Candidates invited and expected to attend are:

l At-large seats — Gary Anhalt, Theodore Collins and Chris Gerke.

l District 2 — Nancy Humbles.

l District 3 — Jennifer Borcherding and Keith Westerkamp.

Sponsoring organizations include the Boys & Girls Club of Cedar Rapids, League of Women Voters, Linn County Iowans for Public Education, Cedar Rapids Education Association, Interfaith Alliance of Iowa, Hawkeye Labor Council and the Cedar Rapids Organization of Teacher Associates.

The school board election takes place Sept. 12.
