Panel to discuss long-term illness in workplace
Panelists will include health care, HR professionals
What do you do when a valued employee needs to take off work for an extended period of time — weeks or possibly months — due to illness or a family situation? Not just for the employee but for a small business especially, this can be daunting.
Managing long-term illness in the workplace will be the topic for a panel of health care and human-resources professionals at The Gazette’s next Business 380 Excellence Business & Breakfast.
Panelists confirmed so far include:
• Dr. Robin Barnett, primary care physician at Mercy Employee Health Center and president of the Iowa Academy of Family Practice
• Mike Demand, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield vice president, Health and Care Management
• Linda Reedy, Society for Human Resources Management.
The event, set for Thursday, Oct. 6, at Mercy Medical Center’s Hallagan Education Center, 701 10th St. SE in downtown Cedar Rapids, will begin at 7 a.m. with networking and a light breakfast. The panel discussion and question-and-answer session will run from 7:45 to 9 a.m.
Tickets can be obtained at TheGazette.com/tickets or by calling (319) 398-8345.
