Two quick service dining chains will be opening locations over the next month at Westdale in southwest Cedar Rapids.
Noodles & Co. will open a 2,800-square-foot restaurant Monday at 2360 Edgewood Rd. SW. The eatery will seat 70 people inside and 28 on an outside patio.
It will be the second Cedar Rapids location for the Broomfield, Colo., chain and the fourth in the Corridor. Noodles & Co. also has restaurants at 310 Collins Road NE in Cedar Rapids, 2451 Second St. in Coralville and 201 S. Clinton St. in Iowa City.
Noodles & Co. typically employs 25 to 35 people with a mix of full and part time.
Denver, Colo.-based Chipotle Mexican Grill plans to open a 2,500-square-foot restaurant March 5 at 2360 Edgewood Rd. SW in the same retail center that houses Noodles & Co.
Danielle Winslow, Chipotle communications manager, said the second Chipotle in Cedar Rapids will employ between 25 and 35 people with a mix of full and part time. Winslow said the restaurant will seat 75 in the dining room and 35 outside on a patio.
Chipotle also has locations at 4444 First Ave. NE in Cedar Rapids (Lindale Mall) and 201 S. Clinton St. in Iowa City.
Chipotle and Noodles & Co. are the “end cap” tenants for a 12,000-square-foot multi-tenant retail building. Wingstop, a Dallas-based chain of more than 1,000 nostalgic, aviation-themed restaurants, and AT&T/Spring Mobile, a cellular phone retailer, opened locations in recent months.
Great Clips and Q Nails & Spa also have signed leases for the building. The businesses are expected to open stores this spring.
Edgewood Partners is working on the final design and leasing for a 7,500-square-foot multi-tenant retail building adjacent to the new U.S. Bank building. Construction is expected to begin in April.
Significant infrastructure construction has been completed at Westdale in preparation for new buildings at the $90 million redevelopment project. Lisa Rowe, Westdale general manager and vice president of Frew Development Group, said talks are continuing with potential new tenants.
