New Cedar Rapids Dunkin' Donuts close to opening
Franchise expects eatery to employ 20 to 30 people
CEDAR RAPIDS — Last minute details are delaying the opening of the second Dunkin’ Donuts in Cedar Rapids and the fourth in the Corridor.
Andrea Farley, director of operations for Eastern Iowa Food Service of Burlington, said the roughly 2,000-square-foot store at 1640 Edgewood Rd. SW is expected to open in a matter of weeks if not days.
“We still don’t have a firm opening date,” Farley said Tuesday. “We’re working on a couple of things that could take days or a few weeks.”
The store, which will be similar in layout and floor plan to a Dunkin’ Donuts at 584 Seventh Ave. in Marion, will employ between 20 and 30 people, including full- and part-time associates, according to Farley.
Farley said the Edgewood Road SW site was selected for a couple reasons.
“We looked at daytime traffic, and access was a big thing for us,” she said. “We also felt that CVS — located next door at 3419 16th Ave. SW — would be a good neighbor.”
Farley said the Dunkin’ Donuts will be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. It will offer the same menu as other Dunkin’ Donuts at 2905 Blairs Ferry Rd NE in Cedar Rapids and 604 Second St. in Coralville.
Massachusetts-based Dunkin’ Donuts has a development agreement with Eastern Iowa Food Service for 12 stores in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City area between 2012 and 2018.
Eastern Iowa Food Service is a subsidiary of Reif Oil Co. of Burlington, a family-owned retail and wholesale fuel distributing company with seven convenience stores in Eastern Iowa. It also distributes a variety of fuels in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin.
Farley is the daughter of Clifford Reif, president and CEO of Reif Oil, who founded the company in 1978. The company acquired the Dunkin’ Donuts franchise territory for Eastern Iowa in 2011.
