CEDAR RAPIDS - A new tenant will occupy the space formerly held by Fresh Market in Cedar Rapids, more than two years after the company pulled out of the market.
Grocery store chain Aldi plans to open a new store at 180 Collins Rd. NE, the company confirmed to The Gazette this week. The new Aldi will move into the same space in the Collins Crossing shopping center that Fresh Market vacated in May 2016.
'We are excited to confirm that a new store will be coming to Cedar Rapids in 2019 with construction starting over the winter,” Heather Moore, an Aldi vice president, said in an emailed statement.
Moore said more details will be provided at a later date.
A site plan posted by RCG Ventures, owner of Collins Crossing, also shows Aldi will occupy the 24,000-square-foot space.
Essen, Germany-based Aldi has two other locations in Cedar Rapids, one at 5425 Blairs Forest Blvd. NE and another at 1860 Edgewood Road SW. It also has a one store each in Marion, Coralville and Iowa City.
