CEDAR RAPIDS — Geonetric, a Cedar Rapids provider of health care marketing, intranet and website design, has named a new senior leader.
Linda Barnes, chief operating officer, has been promoted to CEO effective immediately. Former CEO Eric Engelmann will retain majority ownership of the company and become board chairman.
Barnes, who joined the executive team at Geonetric in 2006, has supervised marketing, business development, human resources and client services. In her most recent role as COO, she designed and implemented workplace culture initiatives that led to Geonetric frequently having been named a best place to work as well as one of the most flexible companies in the country.
“Linda is a strong leader and can be credited with implementing sweeping organizational changes and building a culture so remarkable that she’s asked to share her insights at conferences across the country,” Engelmann said in a news release. “She has the proven ability to execute on vision and strategy, is passionate about our mission and team, and is committed to helping our clients succeed.
“I look forward to remaining involved with Geonetric, our partners and clients, and supporting Linda in her new role.”
Engelmann also is executive director of the New Bohemian Innovation Collaborative (NewBoCo), an organization that supports entrepreneurship in the Corridor and is the group behind the Iowa Startup Accelerator and the Vault Co-working space.
Barnes will lead an executive team that includes Ben Dillon, chief strategy officer, and Chris Hartman, chief financial officer.

Geonetric, 415 12th Ave. SE, was founded in 1999 by Engelmann and became health care specific in 2001. The company, which employs about 76, builds and supports VitalSite CMS, a health care-specific content management system.
