CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids may get a new outdoor recreation store after all.

After months of back and forth news, the CEO of Camping World said this week that Cedar Rapids is on the list to get a new Gander Outdoors, the successor to Gander Mountain.

In a video posted on Facebook, CEO Marcus Lemonis read off a list of Gander Outdoors locations he said the company plans to open by May or mid-June. When he noted Cedar Rapids, Lemonis indicated the store would open in the former Gander Mountain spot at 2140 Edgewood Road SW.

“Cedar Rapids, the old store not the new one,” he said.

A news release issued Thursday confirmed the Edgewood Road location. The store will employ 55 people.

That “old” 31,000-square-foot store on Edgewood closed in 2016 as the company prepared to move to a brand-new, 52,000-square-foot building on Blairs Ferry Road.

Gander Mountain went through bankruptcy, however. Lemonis’s Camping World acquired certain assets of the company and rebranded it to Gander Outdoors.
