Farmers State Bank of Marion has wrapped up 10 months of construction at its Edgewood Plaza branch.
The expansion took the building at 419 Edgewood Rd. NW from 1,380 square feet to almost 2,200 square feet. It added new offices as well as a break room for the staff.
During the construction, which began in October 2015, the interior and exterior of the 20-year-old building received a face-lift.
Farmers State opened the Edgewood Plaza office in November 1996. The bank also has offices in downtown Marion, Collins Road Square, Van Buren Village, Hiawatha and Alburnett.
Farmers State, the largest family-owned financial institution in Linn County, has assets of more than $700 million.
While Farmers State has expanded its branch on Cedar Rapids’ west side, Wells Fargo Bank is planning to close its office at 3406 F Ave. NW at the end of October.
Wells Fargo, in a letter to customers earlier this month, said the F Avenue NW office will be consolidated with branches at 3010 Williams Blvd. SW, 500 33rd Ave. SW and 4051 42nd St. NE.
Wells Fargo would be the latest bank to close a branch office in Cedar Rapids.
Bank of the West closed its branch at 4444 First Ave. NE on the perimeter of Lindale Mall in northeast Cedar Rapids in January 2013. The San Francisco-based bank also closed an office at 3730 Williams Blvd. SW.
