Rock the Chalk underway in Iowa City

Musical acts, artwork on tap today

IOWA CITY — The second Rock the Chalk event is underway in Iowa City with chalk artists busy creating works on the sidewalk and musical acts taking the stage.

Hosted by MidWestOne Bank, the event is taking place the two northbound lanes of Clinton Street as well as the entire 100 block of Washington Street between Clinton and Dubuque streets.

The festivities began at 10 a.m. today and continue until tonight.

The Blake Shaw Quintet is scheduled to perform from 4 to 5 p.m., James Tutson & the Roll Back takes the stage from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and The Bernemann Brothers Band performs from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

From 5 to 8:30 p.m., festival goers can get their face painted and add their chalk creation to the community art pieces.

The public is encouraged to watch the progress of the artists as the day progresses.
