Violet May Payne, 90, of Anamosa, died May 2, 2018, at the Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 8, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.

Violet May Spooner was born on May 3, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Eugene and Lenora (Kephart) Spooner. She attended
McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. She married Donald G. Sterns in 1946. They later divorced. She married Raymond H. Payne on Dec. 31, 1965, in Cedar Rapids.
She worked briefly at Collins Radio; however, she devoted all of her time as a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, canning, cooking and making homemade bread. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family.
Those remembering her are her husband of 52 years, Raymond; her children, Ray (Judy) Sterns, Connie (Jerry) Coyle, Marilyn (George) Coyle, Pearl Sterns, Ron Payne and Barb (Collin) Aarus; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Arlene Stratton, Eugene Spooner Jr., Dorothy Ann Stratton and Marcella Slaymaker; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Payne.
