Shirley M. Collins, 88, a resident of Manor Care, died there Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017. Per Shirley's request, there will be no public service. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from
5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Allen) Cox of Anamosa and Wendy Garringer and Paula Frazier, both of Cedar Rapids. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Mark Garringer, Ryan
Smith-Burns and Katherine Frazier; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband;
a brother, Ray Long; a sister, Bonnie Freeman; and three grandchildren, Heidi Slocum, Christopher Garringer and Jeremy Smith.
Shirley was born April 21, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Ray and Nellie Burgin Long. She married Orville K. Collins on June 25, 1947, in Marion. Orville passed away in 1991.
Shirley had been employed at Farmers State Bank, was owner and operator of Shirley's Sewing, and, most recently, was a sales rep for Christmas Around the World.
She was a member of Marion Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary for over 56 years, and the Marion Women's Club for 48 years. She enjoyed all types of music, watching movies, fishing, square dancing with Orville, and was very talented with crafts, which included crocheting, cross stitching and sewing.
Shirley will forever be remembered as a wonderful and caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Shirley's name.
