Bob Benny Sojka was born Oct. 16, 1935, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, the only son of Ben and Amelia (Terpkosh) Sojka Youngblut. Bob graduated from Wilson High School in 1954 and served in the National Guard from 1954 to 1960.
On Oct. 20, 1973, Bob married Joyce Spehar in San Jose, Calif. They relocated to Iowa, where he owned and operated Valley Lanes Bowling Alley. He was a passionate bowler, playing in leagues and tournaments. He was proud of his 300 game.
In 1986, Bob and Joyce moved to Appleton, Wis., where he was employed at Lawrence University and was a part-time bartender. He enjoyed golf and fishing with his good friend, Chuck. He loved to garden, but his greatest passion was sports; he was an avid Iowa Hawkeye.
Bob will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Joyce, and blended family: Roger Sojka, Diana Lynn Divine Sojka and Brenda McAfee Sojka, all of California; Rock Sojka of Oregon; Susan (Bob) Webb of Appleton, Steve Spehar of California and Kelly (DeWelt) Squir of Arkansas; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by a sister, Karolyn (Ralph) Sedlacek; an aunt, Charlene Sojka; and a sister-in-law, Carol Reed; as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special friends, Chuck and Dee Desten, Dale and Mary Scribner and Cloyd and Shirlene Robinson.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Amelia (Terpkosh) Sojka; and a sister, Bernice Sedlacek.
