Orville L. Hormann
Orville L. Hormann, 89, passed away on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Matt Schneider-Adams officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial with military rites will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Orville was born Oct. 10, 1928, to Paul and Milda Hartwig Hormann. He married Ruth Ebers on Feb. 11, 1951, at Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; son, Mark (Teri) of Clarence; daughters, Marcia Syring of Clarence and Marilyn (Tom) Fitzgerald of Mechanicsville; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters; and a son-in-law, Al Syring.
Orville's hobbies included bowling, fishing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and playing cards. His greatest enjoyment came from his grandkids' visits, hugs and kisses, and he thoroughly enjoyed all of their activities. Orville was a Clarence American Legion member for 61 years, and had served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 in the U.S. Army. After returning home from the war, he worked for Griesbach Construction before becoming a lifetime farmer.
