Lois Elaine (Boock) Estling, 62, went Home to be with her Savior Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, with her loving husband by her side at Meadow View Memory Care Village, Cedar Rapids, after surviving several years with Alzheimer's disease. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Shellsburg, officiated by Pastor Mark Leckband. Burial: Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa.
Lois was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, 1953, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and LaVera (Ruchotzke) Boock. She graduated from Highland High School, Riverside, in 1972, where she ran track and played basketball and the clarinet. She then went on to Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, to be one of only two women to graduate from the horticulture program in 1974. It was at Kirkwood that Lois met the love of her life, Tim. The two married on Aug. 24, 1974, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington. Tim and Lois lived in the Cedar Rapids/Ely area until 1978, when they moved to their current home in Shellsburg.
Lois was a devoted and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother, who always put God and family first and provided that foundation to her family. She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church, Shellsburg. Over the years, she worked odd jobs in order to stay home to raise her three children and babysit her grandchildren. Lois was a humble woman who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She enjoyed landscaping, music, playing basketball, taking walks and spending time with her family.
Lois is survived by her husband of 42 years, Timothy; their daughters, Wendy (Jon) Beebe of Independence and Jennifer (Michael) Jones of Cedar Rapids; their son, Christopher (Elizabeth) Estling, also of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren whom she adored, Sarah, Alex, Casey, Isabel, Melani and Atticus; sisters, Phyllis (Jerry) Cochran of Cedar Rapids, Joanna Koopman of Haskins, Carol (Karen) Wolfe of Cedar Rapids and Marilynne (Don) Reiner of Bismarck, N.D.; brother-in-law, David Seth of Coffeen, Ill.; dear family friends, Mary and Joey Pusateri of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Chad; brother, Eugene Boock and wife Nancy; sister, Susan Seth; mother-in-law, Ruth Seery and her husband, Joe; father-in-law, Lester "Jess" Estling; nephews, Kirk and Jason; and nieces, Susan, Pamela and Kathy.
Special heartfelt thanks goes to the caring staff at Meadow View and Care Initiatives Hospice who treated Lois and her family like their own and helped her live out her last months with dignity and grace.
