Leo Robert Johnson, 75, born Jan. 25, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed on Aug. 24, 2016, after a valiant battle against cancer.
Leo was preceded in death by his two brothers in childhood, Leonard and Larry; his father, Leroy Robert; his mother, Helen Marie Forkner; and his stepmother, Mary June Johnson.
Leo is survived by his companion of over 30 years, Susan Stramel; his two sisters, Pam and Patricia of Arizona; his sons, Leo Johnson and Mark Swore; his daughters, Laura, Linda and Julieo; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Leo, being an extremely private man, wished for no service or tears.
He felt he had lived a full life and totally on his own terms. He wanted to be remembered for his loyalty to friends and his many talents, among them restoring cars and motorcycles, operating heavy equipment and building and restoring homes.
He loved his home, landscaping and his pets with a passion. Leo took great pride in always standing up for the underdog and never turning down a challenge.
Anyone who truly knew Leo will miss him and remember him as a true one-of-a-kind man.
Although Leo refused all visitors, he wanted to thank all those who sent well wishes and prayers and offered to help in any way they could.
We wish to thank the staff of Hall-Perrine and hospice and his personal hospice nurse, Cindy, for being so kind and caring.
A thank-you goes to Iowa Cremation for being helpful and professional.
