Kenneth M. Johnson, 87, of Seaside, Calif., passed away March 31, 2017.
He is survived by his daughter, Kerrie Johnson; granddaughters, Danielle Brewer and Angel Connally, all of Seaside; a brother, Charles Keith Johnson of Cedar Rapids; and sisters, Julana Dickel of Middle Amana and Andrea B. Smith of Palo Alto, Calif.
Kenneth was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Feb. 15, 1930, the son of Charles L. Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Schontz Johnson of Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in January 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947. He served on active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Korean conflict and twice during the Vietnam conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Deborah; and brother, Martin L. Johnson.
He attended Coe College, the University of Iowa and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado. He was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1960 and retired as a lieutenant commander in 1971, after 24 years of service.
