John Davis Rector, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at the Meth-Wick Community. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with a graveside service at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
John was born on Feb. 4, 1945, to Jack and Alice Hauswirth Rector in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School in 1963. John attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1979. John worked for the United States Postal Service in Iowa City from 1970 to 2009. John was a gifted writer who wrote poetry for family and friends. He also enjoyed a variety of music and was a passionate fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
John's family includes three siblings, William Rex Rector of Arlington, Texas, Edward Lee (Cynthia) Rector of Santa Fe, N.M., and Barbara Ann (Terry) Ohnstad of Littleton, Colo.; and his nieces and nephews, Kyle (Jennifer) Ohnstad of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Crela Frye (Scott) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Erin (Kynton) Chan of Aurora, Colo., Hayden (Kristina Martinez) Rector and Stuart Rector, both of Santa Fe, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
