James A. Strawn, 77, of Arlington, Iowa, died Monday afternoon, Jan. 22, 2018, at Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein.
Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, with Rev. James F. Hanke officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home in Oelwein.
Interment: Groat Cemetery, rural Arlington.

James Aronald Strawn was born Oct. 27, 1940, in Oelwein, son of Alois and Pauline (Levine) Strawn. He graduated from Arlington High School. On Nov. 10, 1973, he was united in marriage to Carol Hohmann in Elkader, Iowa. James farmed outside of Arlington on the family farm for over 50 years. He loved his land and enjoyed tending to his livestock, mushroom hunting, going to the casino, taking short trips and spending time with his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife, Carol Strawn of Arlington; son, Jason Strawn of Arlington; two daughters, Patches (Matt) Toebe of Shell Rock and Michele Ross of Black Creek, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Casstle and Zoe Strawn, Austin, Gunner and Stella Toebe, Alaurah Alderson and Leadah Price; and two brothers, John (Myrlene) Strawn of Cedar Rapids and Ron (Sharon) Strawn of Bellevue, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Buffy Strawn.
