James LeRoy Patterson, 88, of Cedar Rapids died Sunday, April 22, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will
be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
James was born Nov. 28, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1948. James served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. James married Elsie Rae LeMont on Nov. 5, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. They enjoyed 67 years together.
James worked as a lineman at Iowa Electrical Light and Power Co. (Alliant Energy). He retired from there after 37 years.
He loved gardening, working in the yard, fishing, listening to Iowa Hawkeye football and spending time with his family. He was a kind, generous, giving, loving friend, father and husband. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
James is survived by his wife, Elsie Rae Patterson; two daughters, Paula Patterson and Pamela (Don) Heckman; and one son, James R. Patterson; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Amelia (Busch) Patterson; his daughter, Patricia Camarata; and a brother, Robert Patterson.
