EUGENE H. HOLTHAUS Guttenberg Eugene H. Holthaus, 82, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. He was born June 5, 1934, in Worthington, Iowa, the son of Howard and Hazel Holthaus. Eugene graduated from Edgewood High School, attended Upper Iowa University and eventually received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. Eugene worked many years for the College Community School District in Cedar Rapids as a teacher, coach and principal. On Jan. 7, 1956, Eugene was united in marriage with Kay Brown at Colesburg Methodist Church and the two later were blessed with three children. Gene loved to spend his free time hunting, fishing and pontooning with family and friends. Eugene is survived by his three children, Caprice (Elmer Jr.) Waldschmidt of Thornton, Colo., Shauna Dennison of Lisbon and Bradley (Tammy) Holthaus of Labadieville, La.; five grandchildren, Matthew, Kristopher, Deven, Kadie and Dylan; and many other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Kay, in 2005. Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 7. A private family service will be at a later date. Eugene's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Clayton County VNA and the Guttenberg Hospital for the magnificent level of care and compassion Eugene received.
