Edward E. Biggart Jr., 82, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at the Rock Ridge Care Center, Shellsburg, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the Norwich Cemetery, Martelle.
Surviving are his three children, Ted (Sue) Biggart, Mount Pleasant, Patricia (Dennis) Pohlman, Keystone, and Gail Biggart, Ankeny; seven grandchildren, Preston Biggart, Chelcie Goedken, Monica Goedken-Abramowitz, Jacob Goedken, Mary Pohlman, Megan Metz and Matthew Pohlman; five great-grandchildren, and one on the way, Cadan Stull Elliott and Presley Biggart, and Everest and Laurelei Goedken-Abramowitz; and his brother, Richard (Shirley) Biggart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Pearl Luker and Mabel Boner.
Edward Everett Biggart Jr. was born Jan. 24, 1935, in Anamosa, Iowa. He was the son of Edward E. and Lois Firn Burlingham Biggart. He graduated from Springville schools in 1953. Ed started his working career mowing lawns and digging tile ditches. He was employed at Allis-Chalmers in Cedar Rapids and also operated a livestock hauling business. Ed married Edith Corporon on June 17, 1955. The couple later divorced. For over 30 years, he was employed at Harnischfeger as a maintenance mechanic until the factory closed. In retirement, Ed worked at AsGrow Seed Corn in Anamosa. He married Vera Ortgies in June 1996. They later divorced.
Ed was a member of the Gospel Light Baptist Church in Marion. He also belonged to the Paint and Palette Club, played golf at the Wapsi Country Club and loved to go fishing.
