Donald L. Kress, 85, of Belle Plaine, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Christ United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, with Pastor Steve Hubbell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, and will continue one hour before the funeral service at the church.

Donald, the son of George and Olive (Sloan) Kress, was born June 22, 1931, in Buchanan County, Iowa. He graduated from Quasqueton High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army. On March 15, 1952, Don married Barbara Carroll on Barbara's family farm. In 1962, the couple moved from Independence to Belle Plaine, where Don owned and operated Don's Auto Body Shop. In 1971, he went to work for Grinnell Mutual until retirement in 1991.
Don enjoyed woodworking as his pastime. He and his wife Barbara worked together building their business, Board and Pallet, making crafts to sell at Creative Colony in Amana.
Donald is survived by his children, Vicki (Dennis) Schwab of Belle Plaine, Debbi (Mike) Benewich of Loveland, Colo., and Beth (Alan) Brockette of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and many more loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; infant brother; brothers, Glen and Ernest; and sister, Iva.
