Dennis Burdette Williams was born July 19, 1933, in Muscatine, to Alfred and Laura (Christian) Williams. He joined the Navy in 1951, serving on the USS Damato. Denny married Wilma Dirks on Feb. 10, 1957, in Anamosa. Denny worked in the trucking industry for many years, and in the late 1960s co-founded Hill & Williams Brothers Inc. He belonged to American Legion Post 109, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9722, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.
No one was a stranger to Denny. He always was visiting with friends and neighbors, playing cards, traveling to Arizona for the winters, and never missed an annual ship's reunion of the USS Damato. Denny was a hard man with a tender heart, always happy to lend a helping hand or tool to anyone in need. He found his greatest joy spending time with his family.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Delbert and Allan; sister, Peg; and brother-in-law, Duane Dotson.
A memorial fund has been established in Denny's name.
