Dale Arnold Williams, 85, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away at his home on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fort Dodge. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge, with Pastor Nicholas Thackery officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dale was born in Marion, Iowa, on May 12, 1931, to Arnold and Esther (Kuhnle) Williams. He grew up in Marion. Dale graduated from Marion High School in 1949. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Dunn on Oct. 17, 1964, in Marion. He worked for Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids as a human resources executive and lived briefly in Cherokee, Iowa. He and JoAnn moved to Fort Dodge in 1967 and opened Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors, which they owned and operated until retiring in 1998. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and enjoyed collecting model vintage cars and cars in general. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, friends and his cat, Lilly.
Dale is survived by his daughter, LeAnn Heun of Verona, Wis.; grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew and Katelyn, all of Verona, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn; his brother, Leo (Leota) Williams; his sister, Darlene (John) Knussman; and his parents, Arnold and Esther.
Memorials may be left to the Almost Home Human Society in Fort Dodge or to the discretion of the family.
