Charles Thomas Marple, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Meth-Wick Community on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. A visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private inurnment service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids on Monday, Sept. 26, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's sanctuary. An informal reception will follow the service.
He is survived by a son, Neal (Jane Rheem) Marple of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Janelle Adams of Osage; four grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Marple and Rachael and Zach Adams; and a sister, Trudie (Ed) Bigelow of Aurora, Colo.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda Rae Marple, in 2013; a sister, Jo Hallberg; and son-in-law, Dave Adams.
Charles Thomas Marple was born Feb. 22, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Theda (Anderson) Marple. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City and received his Bachelor of Science degree in sociology in 1959 from the University of South Dakota. He married Linda Rae Marple on Aug. 1, 1964, in Cedar Rapids. Together they shared 48 years of marriage. Charles retired from Rockwell Collins after more than 30 years, and enjoyed his retirement years with family, friends and his loving wife, Linda.
Charles was a longtime and active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
