Charles H. Enfield, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at the Woodlands at the Meth-Wick Community after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, officiated by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the chapel beginning at 10 a.m. A reception will immediately follow at Cedar Memorial Park Family Center and Library. Private family inurnment will take place at St. Paul United Methodist Church columbarium.
Charles was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Kelly, Iowa, to Richard and Elizabeth (Woods) Enfield. He graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines. He later attended Drake University and the University of Michigan. Charles enlisted with the U.S. military in 1942, serving honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After the war, Charles was united in marriage to Hazel M. Doerr on March 20, 1948, in Centerville, S.D. To this union, two daughters were born.
Charles worked as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement. He was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was actively involved with church functions. He also was member of the Masonic Lodge. Additionally, Charles was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the Quiet Birdmen and the China-Burma-India Veterans Association. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, camping, boating and traveling. He especially enjoyed time with his family.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Kathy Glowacki of Iowa City; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary (Don) Stark of North Carolina and Donna (Charles) Hawbaker of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Hazel, in 2013; daughter, Cynthia Abraham; a sister, Ann Brown; and son-in-law, Greg Glowacki.
