Arnold J. Lanning, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. before the service at the church. A luncheon will follow the service at the Family Center, Cedar Memorial Park. Burial will
be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arnold John Lanning was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Toddville, Iowa, to parents Earl and Elva (Boyd) Lanning. He graduated from Center Point High School in 1940. Following high school, Arnold proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in 1944-1946 in the Pacific Theater. He married Maxine Benesh on April 14, 1945, at Fort Meade, Md. The family made their home in Cedar Rapids following the war, with their son, Kevin. Arnold enjoyed working at Kenwood Transfer for 32 years, followed by an additional five years at Iowa Manufacturing. Arnold enjoyed the various challenges life presented and helping people along the way.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Lanning of Cedar Rapids; son, Kevin (Susan) Lanning of Urbandale, Iowa; granddaughter, Jennifer (Derek Zaraza) Lanning of Portland, Ore.; grandson, David (Bailey) Lanning of Indianola, Iowa; and grandchildren, Claire, Dylan and Nora Zaraza, all of Portland, Ore., and Campbell and Lochlan Lanning of Indianola.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Elva Lanning; and five sisters, Freida, Hazel, Doris, Avis and Evelyn.
