Arlene B. Brammer, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Rev. Daniel Krueger will officiate. Burial at Shiloh Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Duane; and two sons, Gary (Vicki) of Mount Pleasant and Steve (Cara) of Medford, Ore. She also is survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wilmer.
Arlene was a born on May 29, 1931, in Chicago, the daughter of Emil and Olga Carlson. She married Duane E. Brammer on Nov. 18, 1950, in Grand River, Iowa.
Arlene was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Salvation Army, St. Luke's Hospital, and was a teacher's aide at Wright School for many years. Arlene was a talented writer and artist, painting on shells and rocks that were given to friends and acquaintances.
Arlene and Duane after retirement worked for 10 years in Yellowstone National Park and wintered 23 years at Gulf Shores, Ala.
Arlene will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Her confidence and faith in Jesus Christ and His promises were the rock and focus of her life.
