Anna Jean Sullivan, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 7, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, and was surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church.
Anna is survived by four children, Ken (Julie) of O'Fallon, Mo., Kathy (Terry) Sedlacek of Walford, Steve (Jean) of Grand Junction, Colo., and Chris of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Lisa (Andy) Vedder of Milwaukee, Wis., Angie (Matt) Dulin of Vinton, Scott (Tiffany) Sullivan of St. Charles, Mo., Rene Sedlacek (Mike Lee) of Arlington, Texas, Wes (Laura) Sedlacek of Cedar Rapids and Mike (Cory) Sedlacek of Oswego, Ill.; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2010; two brothers, Urban and Alfred; and seven sisters, Marcella, Mary, Stella, Helen, Rose, Lenora and Rita.
Anna was born on Dec. 31, 1929, in Lime Springs, the daughter of George and Margaret Emig Kohles, and she was the last child born into the family, born on the last day of the year and the last year of the decade, and was the last to pass away in her family. On Nov. 24, 1948, she married James Sullivan at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma. Anna was a hard worker, and worked in assembly for 14 years at the Square D Co., retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church for 50 years.
Anna enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and traveling, especially going to Las Vegas and to other casinos. She was a great cook, and loved having company, never letting anybody leave hungry. Anna had a great memory and was able to keep up to date with her and Jim's large family. She will be missed by her family and friends.
