Amy Barnum

Cedar Rapids

Amy Barnum, of Cedar Rapids, died April 1, 2017, of complications from metastatic breast cancer at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Amy was born May 19, 1962, in Minneapolis, and grew up in Omaha. She attended the University of Iowa, where she met Joel, her future husband. They were married on July 24, 1983, in Omaha and moved to Sunnyvale, Calif., where she finished her B.A. in accounting at Santa Clara University, returning to the Cedar Rapids area in 1985.
In Cedar Rapids, Amy worked as an accountant at Teleconnect and Life Investors before retiring to be a full-time mom. After the kids grew up, she took a part-time job at Memorial Meadows senior apartment complex, eventually becoming the property manager.
Amy is survived by her husband, Joel; daughters, Emma Barnum (Sam Caster) of Iowa City, Sasha Anderson (Lance) of Cedar Rapids and Gail Barnum (special friend Garret Lunde) of Burnsville, Minn. She also is mourned by her parents, Jack and Bette Kozlen of Omaha; her sister, Becky Kozlen of Chicago; and her two adorable grandsons, Dean and Henry Caster of Iowa City.
We would like to thank all of the doctors who provided Amy's care, especially Dr. Chirantan Ghosh and his staff, and Dr. Robert Silber and the amazing people at Hospice of Mercy, especially Amy's hospice nurse, Kris Sargent.
Amy touched many lives, and everyone who knew her loved her. She will be missed greatly.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Temple Judah in Cedar Rapids followed by burial in Eben Israel Cemetery.
