Allan J. Schons, 70, of North Liberty, died Monday, April 30, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m., and Monday after noon at the church.
Allan is survived by his wife, Dianne; two daughters, Julie (Jason) Felderman of Cedar Rapids and Angela (Tuan) Phan of Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, Jeff Schons of Chicago, Ill., and Aaron (Katie) Schons of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Carolyn (John) Becker, Dorothy (John) Weber and Elaine (Rick) Tracy; a brother, Wesley (JoAnn) Schons; and four grandchildren, Danielle, Isabelle, Niem and Daxton.
Allan was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Dostal.
Allan was born April 1, 1948, in Waterloo, the son of Bernard and Margaret Bauler Schons. He was a 1966 graduate of Don Bosco High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Loras College. He married Dianne Thome on June 26, 1971, in Raymond. Allan retired as a claim manager for United Fire and Casualty. He was a veteran of the Iowa National Guard, member of Knights of Columbus Council 5544, and Gilbertville American Legion Post 714.
Allan enjoyed boating, fishing, golf and listening to country music, especially Willie Nelson. He liked traveling and vacationing in Wisconsin and Florida, and was an avid fan of Iowa football and looked forward to attending their games. Most of all, Allan loved being with his family.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
