CORALVILLE — Dancers and musicians from around the state will converge Saturday, May 12, at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts for the 12th annual Iowa Dance Festival.
Nimbus Dance Works of New Jersey, featuring principal dancer Hannah Weeks of Iowa City, will conduct a master class in contemporary ballet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Coralville Center, then lead a preconcert talk from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m., leading up to the Dance Festival Concert at 7 p.m.
Other master classes in circus hooping at 10:30 a.m. and hi-hop dance at 3 p.m.
The evening performance includes dance choreographed to live music and poetry, featuring Nimbus Dance Works, as well as local celebrities Alan Swanson, Maddie Brown, Marcus Pei, and Lindsey Moon — a hula fire dancer who will be accompanied by the Preucil School Cello Choir.
Nimbus Dance Works focuses its work on the intersection between high-level dance and innovative ways of involving communities and audiences. In addition to work by Artistic Director Samuel Pott, the company commissions dances by leading international dancemakers, and has received acclaim for its program Dance Speaks Out.
Entering the company’s 13th season, Nimbus presents biannual home seasons in Jersey City, New York City and tours regularly throughout the United States, impacting more than 16,000 people each year.
The event is organized by Iowa Dance Festival Directors Sarah and Eloy Barragan, and InterDance Executive Director Nora Garda.
