Glenn E. King, 85, of Blairstown, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne with the Rev. Rose Marie Calderon-Khan officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown, with graveside military rites conducted by the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post No. 170 and the United States Naval Funeral Honors. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown.
A memorial fund has been established.
Glenn was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Iowa County, to Earl and Catherine Marie (Smith) King and graduated from the Blairstown High School. He entered the U.S. Navy on March 7, 1946. Following his honorable discharge on Oct. 25, 1947, he attended business college in Cedar Rapids.
On Sept. 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Darlene Schulze at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne. The couple enjoyed wintering in Arizona for the past 21 years.
Glenn was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne, the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post No. 170 in Blairstown and the LST (Landing Ship Tank) Association. He enjoyed collecting caps and traveling the Midwest for his children and grandchildren's activities.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Blairstown; his children, Julie (Curt) Bousum of Marshalltown, Kent (Kelly) King of Dysart, Tammi (Gary) McNeal of Clarinda, Wade (Angela) King of Davenport and Boyd King of Blairstown; his grandchildren, Grant (Kayla) Bousum, Gelene (Shane) Smutz, Brooke (Dustin) Jetmund, Kersten and Katie King, Brittany (Brock) Raum, Allison and Ryan McNeal and Kennedy, Mallory and Carly King; eight great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Rachel Reilly of Anamosa and Evelyn Schulze of Blairstown.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roy King.
