With flood waters receding, City of Cedar Rapids updates park schedule

City of Cedar Rapids Media Release

With flood waters receding, the Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department’s NW Recreation Center will stay open until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday evening, not 5:00 p.m. as previously announced. All daytime and evening programs and activities at the center will be held as scheduled.

Ushers Ferry Historic Village is closed until October 15. Village activities that were planned before that date are cancelled. Safe Halloween on October 23 and the final Harvest Hayrack Nights on October 26 may still be held if alternative arrangements can be made.

Bender Pool reopened today with normal daytime hours, followed by lessons in the afternoon and regular evening activities.

Two of the three diamonds at Ellis Park and all of the diamonds at Tait Cummins Softball Complex are dry, but there is still no access to the fields. Cancellations are being made on a day-to-day basis. Saturday and Sunday USSSA Baseball and Sunday Men’s 12” Softball have been moved to Perfect Game Sports Park, 7253 Mount Vernon Road SE. Sunday Co-ed Adult Softball at Ellis Park may be moved as well. A decision on where the games will be held will be made no later than noon on Friday, September 30.

Call the Parks & Recreation Weather Hotline, 319-286-5700, for program cancellations. Other closures will be posted on the Parks & Recreation Department’s Facebook page and text/email alerts will be sent via “CR News Now,” the City’s messaging system. Sign up for text/email alerts at
