The Iowa Ideas Conference, Sept. 20-22, will include 80 sessions and more than 250 speakers across eight tracks.

The statewide gathering will mix panel discussions, interviews with state leaders and thought-provoking experiences to help move complex issues forward. Join us in downtown Cedar Rapids for two full days of learning and working together.

Past events: 2017 Iowa Ideas Symposiums

Big ideas exist in all corners of Iowa.

Throughout the first half of 2017, Iowa Ideas visited 6 communities around the state for 14 forward-looking, in-depth conversations. Each symposium featured a mix of expert speakers and opportunities for meaningful conversation between attendees.

With a more intimate setting than the large conference in the fall, the inaugural batch of Iowa Ideas symposiums were a chance for industry leaders, community advocates and engaged citizens to work and learn together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Cedar Falls! Our agriculture discussion featured research about new developments in precision agriculture and discussion on increasing trust between farmers and non-farmers. Then, we looked at community engagement as an effort to boost higher education, especially as Iowa works to meet future workforce needs. Our stop in Iowa’s capitol city explored topics that are crucial to the future of Iowa. With discussions on apprenticeships and other workforce development approaches, aging and caregiving issues, regional transportation and future approaches to learning, we enjoyed meeting and learning with all our attendees.

We returned to Cedar Rapids for our final symposium, focused on key topics for Iowa's future: water management and solar power in our energy & environment discussion, and rural access and affordability in health care.
