About Iowa Ideas
Iowa Ideas is a nonpartisan, statewide learning experience designed to explore the key questions and big ideas that will shape the future of Iowa.
Created by The Gazette in 2017, Iowa Ideas is an effort to connect Iowans via events and storytelling, discover solutions to pressing issues facing the state and foster collaboration.
The project comes at a time where political polarization and mistrust is running very high, yet the need to collaborate and uniquely position our state to thrive in a global economy has never been more important.
Iowa Ideas is focused on 8 key topic areas.
Each represents an industry or issue that has the opportunity to shape the future of Iowa:
And, in 2017, the topics were explored in 3 main ways:
(Stay tuned for details on Iowa Ideas 2018!)
- The Iowa Ideas symposia, a series of community conversations that took place across Iowa throughout the first half of 2017.
- The Iowa Ideas magazine, featuring in-depth, solutions-focused stories, gorgeous photos and informative graphics to help delve deeper than the average newspaper article.
- The inaugural Iowa Ideas conference, hosted in Cedar Rapids Sept. 20-22, drew 650 people to explore all 8 topic areas via panel discussions, interviews with leaders and thought-provoking experiences.
Iowa Ideas is for anyone who wants to make a difference in the future of Iowa. We hope you’ll join us and be part of the conversation.
