There are abundant resources for business owners in Iowa, offering advice, mentorship, services or cold hard cash. But as we learned at our visit to the Mini Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit in Cedar Rapids, the same resources might not work well for all founders.

With that in mind, here's a brief list of resources and events designed for minority and/or immigrant entrepreneurs. What are we missing? Comment below or email engage@wecreatehere.net with additions.

Events:

  • Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit - events and workshops throughout the year, including the flagship, day-long event in November. iesusa.org

  • Iowa Black Business Summit - hoping to expand the network of black business owners statewide. www.iowablackbusiness.org
  • Iowa City Foreign Relations Council  - hosts regular community forums with speakers from around the world. icfrc.org.
  • Iowa Latino Heritage Festival - annually, in Des Moines. www.latinoheritagefestival.org
