Why so late?

I don't know, but Kirk Ferentz must really listen to the groundhog. Maybe some permafrost will be gone by the time the Hawkeyes kick off spring practice March 26.

Much more to come. The "Four Downs" series will take off this week. The quarterbacks post is on the site.

Here's Iowa's spring itinerary:

-- Ferentz will meet with the media Wednesday, March 26 at 12:30 p.m. to discuss the start of spring practice.  The session will take place in the player’s auditorium of the Hayden Fry Football Complex.

-- Iowa’s first spring practice is scheduled for later that afternoon.

-- Iowa will conclude spring practice with the spring game in Kinnick Stadium at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

-- Iowa hasn't announced a spring practice stop in Des Moines (something it did last year), but Ferentz has said that Des Moines (probably Valley Stadium again) is in the plans. The fact that it hasn't been officially announced could be the simple process of getting a contract signed or something else. The date for this would likely be April 12.

-- Iowa likely will have interviews with assistant coaches/players every Wednesday during spring drills.

At the end of the open practices (which last season was a full spring game), Scott Dochterman and I do a giant post with some numbers, impressions, lineups and that sort of thing. Here's what we did at the end of last spring.
