Marble, Ejim, Kane tabbed to Naismith Midseason list
Iowa guard Devyn Marble, Iowa State guard DeAndre Kane and Iowa State forward Melvin Ejim were among 30 players named to the Naismith Award Midseason 30 list, the organization announced today.
Marble currently ranks second in the Big Ten in league games, scoring (17.8) and is the only player to score in double figures in every Big Ten game this season. He's the only Big Ten player to average more than 16 points and have more than 45 steals.
The 6-foot-6 native of Southfield, Mich., is the only active Big Ten player, and one of nine in the country, to amass more than 1,525 points, 325+ assists, 425 rebounds and 150 steals. The team co-captain has scored 26 points or more eight times in his career, including last Saturday in a win against Michigan.
Kane, a 6-4 transfer from Marshall, averages 15.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists a game as the Cyclones' point guard. He's one of just two players nationally with those statistics. Against Baylor, he scored 30 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished nine assists and snagged five steals. He is a Pittsburgh native.
Ejim, a 6-6 senior, scored a Big 12 record 48 points last Saturday against Texas Christian. He also pulled down 18 rebounds to earn league and national honors. He averages 19.1 points and 8.7 rebounds a game this season.
Ejim is a Toronto native and competed for Canada in the World University Games last summer.
Marble is one of four Big Ten players on the list, joining Gary Harris and Keith Appling of Michigan State, and Nik Stauskas of Michigan. Other Big 12 players include Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart and Kansas teammates Joel Embiid and Andrew Wiggins. Former Ames High School star Doug McDermott of Creighton also made the list.Click here for the complete list
