Mixed-use development the Fountains is on track to have its first retail building open this October, with a second retail building following close behind.

The 19-acre development at the corner of Blairs Ferry and Edgewood roads NE, just north of Hy-Vee, eventually will include 45,000 square feet of retail space and 200,000 square feet for offices.

Phase one of construction will include 26,500 square feet of retail space that will be divided between two retail buildings and a two-story 51,000 square foot office building.

Signed tenants include Sanctuary Spa, which will move from 290 Blairs Ferry Road NE into a 2,800 square-foot-space at the Fountains development, and Salon Jude, formerly New Millennium, which will relocate from 3661 First Ave. SE into a 1,500 square-foot space, said Kristina Schoell, project coordinator of Compass Commercial Services.

Renee Strutzman, co-owner of Salon Jude, said the full-service salon had been forced to move and share space with Pizazz Salon and Spa after the 2008 Floods. The Fountains location better portrays the salon's services and image, she said, adding that the owners wanted a new name to better reflect that as well.

Schoell said the company is in talks with other tenants but no other retailers are official. She also discounted rumors of a Cheesecake Factory restaurant opening there.

The foundation has been laid for the office building, she said, adding construction of the building shouldn't be too far behind.

"We're moving along quickly," she said.

Compass Commercial also is talking with different businesses about leasing office space. Schoell said, depending on interest, the office building could be divided into several suites for multiple tenants or be leased to one business.
