University of Dubuque to open Cedar Rapids center in August

Site will offer MBA, undergraduate business courses through LIFE program

The University of Dubuque will open a new Cedar Rapids center next month to offer classes to working adults and those seeking a master's of business administration.

The Cedar Rapids location, at 296 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, will offer MBA and undergraduate business courses through the university's LIFE program, which stands for Learning Institute for Fulfillment and Engagement.

The LIFE adult accelerated program offers evening classes aimed at working adults, with some online work as well, UD officials said.

The site will offer nine five-week blocks throughout the year, and students can start at the beginning of any block, said Tom Hogan, director of communications for UD. The classes meet one night each week for three hours.

"We've had the LIFE program here in Dubuque for six years, and it's been very successful," Hogan said, adding that officials thought Cedar Rapids was a good place for the first satellite location.

Officials hope to enroll 100 students at the center eventually, said Kristi Lynch, director of public information for UD.

The Cedar Rapids center is a renovated facility with about a dozen classrooms and some study areas. Child care services also are available near the center, Hogan said.

An open house will be held at UD's Cedar Rapids LIFE center at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 6.
