Pending approval from the school board, Mary Ellen Maske is set to become the Cedar Rapids Community School District's new deputy superintendent.

If approved, Maske will take over for Gary O'Malley, who began a new role as the superintendent of the Mount Vernon Community School District on Monday. The Cedar Rapids school board is scheduled to vote on the administrative shift during its Monday, July 15 regular meeting.

A statement from the district reads that in the position Maske, who is the Cedar Rapids district's associate superintendent, will supervise high schools and the Office of Learning and Leadership. She has been with the Cedar Rapids schools since 2008.

Administrators were not immediately available for comment so there is no word yet on Maske's start date or the future of the associate superintendent position.

In other administrative news, Director of Student Equity Aaron Green is no longer employed by the Cedar Rapids district. He delivered a report on suspensions and expulsions during the school board's most recent work session on June 24 and his resignation, retirement or termination was not included in any of the board's personnel reports from the 2013 fiscal year.

Attempts to contact individuals from the district's human resources department were not returned.
