The 3rd annual Marion Police Department 5K4K9 Fun Run/Walk will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Linn Mar Stadium. The annual fundraiser supports the K9 Unit of the Marion Police Department.

The K9 Unit was established in 1998 through generous contributions from the community and continues to be funded through donations. The unit consists of three Belgian Malinois; two trained specifically for narcotics detection and one for bomb/firearm detection. All dogs are also trained to conduct building searches, assist in tracking/apprehending suspects, and other general patrol functions. Ongoing costs include training, veterinary expenses, equipment and supplies, and replacement of dogs when necessary.

Participants are asked to gather at the east side of Linn Mar Stadium. From there, the route will go north on 10th Street to Connection Avenue, east to Winslow Road, south to Indian Creek Road, west on the walking path with the finish line back at Linn Mar Stadium. There will be a K9 demonstration following the awards ceremony.

Runners and walkers are welcome (no animals please). The $20 entry fee per person includes t-shirt and goodie bag. After April 17, the cost will be $25 per person and a t-shirt is not guaranteed so register soon! Chip timers will be available at packet pickup on Friday, April 26, 2013, 3:00 7:00 p.m. on the east side of Linn Mar Stadium.

Registration information can be found online at or, or can be picked up at the Marion Police Department or the Marion Hy-Vee. Please call (319)377-4006 or email for further information.
