Coaches for Kids 'Children of Promise' fundraiser set for April 2

The 7th Annual COACHES FOR KIDS fundraiser is set for Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 5:30-9:00 pm at the Iowa City Downtown Sheraton Hotel. All funds raised at this event go directly to support Children of Promise programs in our communities.

This event will feature 2012 Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler as Keynote Speaker. Laura, from Kenosha, Wisconsin, chose mentoring children with incarcerated parents as her official platform for the pageant. This topic is near to her heart, for as a child she herself faced simliar life-challenges. She and her family saw the need for empowering these children to help them know their value and reach their full potential in life.

The event Emcee will be Gary Dolphin, who has become known as “the voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes” football and basketball teams. The evening activities will also include live and silent auctions, and dinner.

The banquet also features the Children of Promise “Coach of the Year Award”, which is presented to recognize the important role coaches play in providing much needed positive mentoring to youth, particularly youth facing challenging circumstances. The top three nominees selected will be announced in March, and the award will be presented to the winner by Iowa Football Coach, Kirk Ferentz, at this banquet. Nominations can be made by community members for a high school coach/assistant coach within the Linn, Johnson or Jones county area. The work of all three will be honored during the event. The winner will receive a plaque and a $500.00 cash award for their school/booster club in their name. Nominations are due March 1st.
