Mason: UI search to fill VP job will start soon
The former vice president for strategic community, Tysen Kendig, left the UI at the end of December
IOWA CITY - A national search will launch soon for a new vice president for strategic communication at the University of Iowa, and President Sally Mason said she hopes it's completed by the end of this semester.
If the search is done by the end of the spring semester, it's likely the new vice president could begin by the start of the new fiscal year July 1, Mason said.
"We're just getting started on that," she said.
The search will advertise nationally but not use the help of a search firm, Mason said, and the process will be underway soon.
Mason's Chief of Staff, Mark Braun, is serving in the vice president role on an interim basis and will continue to do so until the new administrator is hired.
The former vice president for strategic community, Tysen Kendig, left the UI at the end of December for a similar job at the University of Connecticut. Kendig held the UI role for nearly three years.
Mason has previously said that Vice President for Student Life Tom Rocklin and Richard Fumerton, philosophy professor and past president of the Faculty Senate, will head the search committee.
The vice president position reports directly to Mason and administers university communication and marketing, the UI Alumni Association and Hancher Auditorium.
