A merger of three Midwest engineering companies on Tuesday included an Eastern Iowa business with offices in Cedar Rapids, Manchester and West Union.

Fehr Graham, a growing Freeport, Ill., engineering and environmental company with 90 employees, acquired TeKippe Engineering of West Union and Sodemann & Associates of Champaign, Ill.

With the acquisition of TeKippe Engineering and Sodemann & Associates, Fehr Graham will have nine offices in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.

TeKippe Engineering,†with†30 employees, was founded in 1980 by Lyle TeKippe, who had 10 years of consulting engineering experience in West Union. The business acquired Tri-State Engineers of Manchester in 2000 from retiring founder Al Miller. Since 1964, Tri-State Engineers had specialized in serving municipal clients.

In 2009, TeKippe Engineering opened a third location at 375 Collins Rd. NE in Cedar Rapids. The company focuses on consulting engineering and land surveying services.

"Access to their diversified group of professionals will enable us to provide additional service offerings to our clients," said Lyle TeKippe, president of TeKippe Engineering. "The ability to provide structural design, expanded environmental and funding solutions along with brownfields redevelopment services will strengthen our municipal relationships, while the environmental compliance, health and safety offerings will bring growth potential in the private and industrial sectors."

Mick Gronewold, chairman of Fehr Graham, said it became clear in early discussions that the companies' core values and cultures were parallel and the operations would complement†each another.

"The joining of the TeKippe and Fehr Graham teams provides a greater depth of experience, staff qualifications and firm resources in order to better meet the needs of our valued clients," Gronewold said. "We are excited about the opportunities these acquisitions will create, providing additional resources for our clients, professional advancement for employees, and further growth in support of our strategic plan."

Sodemann & Associates, founded in 1955, employs 18 and provides consulting civil engineering services to municipal, governmental and private businesses located within a 100-mile radius of the firmís headquarters in Champaign.

Fehr Graham provides engineering, environmental, and funding solutions for commercial, industrial, institutional, and governmental clients.
