Hills Bank announces three promotions

New hires

Chad Smeby (see photo) joined Skogman Carlson Insurance in Cedar Rapids. Smeby was previously with Integrity Insurance.


Phil Zajdel joined Metro Wire and Cable in Iowa City as sales consultant. He had worked at the company’s southeast distribution facility in Lawrenceville, Ga.


The Cedar Rapids Fire Department announced the promotion of Doug LeClere (see photo) to shift fire captain. LeClere was previously shift firefighter.

Michelle Wolter (see photo) was promoted to employee benefits specialist within the financial services department at AW Welt Ambrisco Insurance in Iowa City. Wolter has been with the agency since 2003.

CliftonLarsonAllen in Cedar Rapids announced Josh Barta (see photo) was promoted to manager and Missy Emerson (see photo) was promoted to senior associate.

Hills Bank and Trust Co. announced the following promotions: John Baxter (see photo) to information systems officer, systems administration in the Hills office; Dave Kriz (see photo) to vice president branch manager at the Iowa City Muscatine Avenue and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics offices; Brenda Langenberg (see photo) to vice president branch manager of the Mount Vernon and Lisbon offices.

CIVCO Medical Solutions in Coralville announced two management appointments. Robin Therme was promoted to senior vice president and general manager of CIVCO’s Multi-Modality Imaging business unit. Nat Geissel will lead CIVCO’s Radiation Oncology business unit as senior vice president and general manager.

Board Members

Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, named two new board members: Christy Venne (see photo), Cargill Corn Milling, and Casey Drew (see photo) with the city of Cedar Rapids.

The Crisis Center of Johnson County’s officers of its board of directors for 2012-2013 include Jan Leff (see photo), retired from Iowa City Community School District; Christopher McDonnell (see photo), Two Rivers Bank; and John Spitzer (see photo), University of Iowa Henry B. Tippie College of Business.

Three new members were named to Brucemore’s executive committee of the board of trustees: Brenda Duello (photo), University of Iowa Department of Medicine, as president; Echo Batson (see photo), Rockwell Collins, as vice president; and Tom Peffer (see photo), Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, as secretary.


Michael Pugh (see photo), Bradley & Riley, was accredited by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED Green Associate.


Tom Slockett, Johnson County auditor, was named Auditor of the Year by the Iowa State Association of County Auditors.

For the seventh straight quarter, the University of Iowa Community Credit Union was ranked first in the nation for Return of the Member, as calculated quarterly by independent research firm Callahan & Associates.

Kehl Management Co., which operates Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, received an Iowa Venture Award from the Iowa Area Development Group, on behalf of Iowa’s rural electric cooperatives and member municipal electric systems.

Lil’ Drug Store Products Inc., based in Cedar Rapids, announced Convenience Store News chose the company’s EZ OTC convenience-sized over-the-counter drug products to receive the 2012 Best New Products Award in the health and beauty care category.

Brian McConnell (see photo) with AW Welt Ambrisco Insurance in Iowa City was Ambassador of the Year for the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce.
