Police accuse Iowa City woman of taking sign from anti-abortion protestor
Reports say woman threw sign on ground twice
An Iowa City woman is facing a disorderly conduct charge after police said she confronted a protestor holding an anti-abortion sign on Wednesday and threw down the sign twice.
Iowa City police were called to the intersection of Highway 1 and Riverside Drive at 9:19 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a fight. When they arrived, they learned that Christine Grace Davis, 57, allegedly drove past an anti-abortion protestor and pulled into a nearby parking lot to confront the person, according to a criminal complaint.
Davis is accused of grabbing the sign and throwing it on the ground, according to police. Witnesses said Davis walked away but then returned and grabbed the sign a second time, throwing it down again, police reported.
Witnesses saw the incident, and Davis herself admitted to throwing down the sign, police reported.
Davis has been involved in several lawsuits in Johnson County, and she received a deferred judgment for fifth-degree theft in Washington County in 2008.She could not be immediately reached for comment on Thursday.
