Hawkeyes in the NFL: Brandon Myers, target
This is Brandon Myers' fourth season in the NFL, all spent with the Oakland Raiders. He is a tight end, one who caught nine touchdown passes over his last two seasons at Iowa.
He had been seen as a blocking specialist. So who saw Myers doing what he's done in the first two weeks of this season?
If you had a fantasy football league for just former Iowa tight ends in the NFL, it would be a four-player league, with Myers, Tony Moeaki of Kansas City, Dallas Clark of Tampa Bay, and Scott Chandler of Buffalo.
Myers would have been the fourth player taken, every time. But he is the runaway leader in yardage and receptions ... so far.
The Hawkeye of the Day in the NFL was Carolina Panthers safety Charles Godfrey, who returned an interception of a Drew Brees pass 9 yards for a touchdown in the Panthers' 35-27 win over New Orleans, and had 11 tackles.
Last week, Godfrey said he had a grudge against the Saints because they were chasing NFL records in their Week 17 game against Carolina last year.
New Orleans won, 45-17. Brees stayed in the game until his fifth TD pass of the game, which gave the Saints a 45-17 fourth-quarter lead. The Saints set NFL marks for total yards, yards passing, and first downs.
I thought it was a slap in the face," Godfrey said.
Defensive tackle Mike Daniels was a fourth-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in April. He was on the Packers' inactive list for their first regular-season game, against San Francisco. But he played in Game 2, last Thursday night against Chicago. And played well.
Daniels was in for 14 plays and recorded his first sack.
